Youth Ambassadors 2018 -New Providence (Deadline Extended)

U.S. Embassy Nassau is pleased to announce that we have extended the deadline for the Youth Ambassadors with the Caribbean Program – Nassau Cohort! Students and potential adult mentors from New Providence have until Monday, May 21st, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. to apply. The program will take place in the United States August 7 – 28, 2018.   The Youth Ambassadors Program with the Caribbean is a 3-week leadership exchange in the United States for teenagers ages 15 – 18 and adult mentors from the Caribbean. The program provides full scholarships for participants to take part in cultural-educational programming focused on civic engagement and social entrepreneurship. Sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State, the program aims to develop a cadre of young adults throughout the Americas who have a strong sense of civic responsibility, a commitment to their communities, an awareness of current and global issues, and strong interpersonal leadership skills. The program aims to promote mutual understanding, respect, and collaboration between people in the United States and other countries of the Western Hemisphere. All teen applicants must:

  • Be a citizen and resident of the country that they are applying to represent
  • Be a resident of New Providence Island
  • Be between the ages of 15 – 18 during the US exchange in August 2018
  • Have at least one year of high school left after September 2018
  • Demonstrate leadership potential and community involvement
  • Limited US and other international travel
  • Have permission from both parents/legal guardians to participate in the 3-week program

All adult mentor applicants must:

  • Be a citizen and resident of the country that they are applying to represent
  • Be a resident of New Providence Island
  • Actively be working with youth in either a high school or community setting
  • Be willing and able to meet periodically with selected students from their city/region during the 2018/2019 academic year to support and monitor their follow-on work

All students and adults who meet eligibility requirements are welcomed to apply. We would also like to invite each High School and Youth Organization to nominate two students that you feel would greatly benefit from this program. There is no application fee.  The United States Government will pay for all costs to participate in the program, including international travel to and from the United States, orientations, visa fees, and the exchange activities in the United States, including meals and lodging.
