Secretary of Navy visits pay courtesy call on the Prime Minister in first of its kind trip

Secretary of the United States Navy, The Honorable Carlos Del Toro, visited The Bahamas on March 1 to discuss climate change and security. During his visit, he met with Prime Minister Philip “Brave” Davis, where there was a formal exchange of gifts.

Secretary Del Toro was accompanied by Chargé d’ Affaires Usha Pitts and Deputy Assistant of Defense for the Western Hemisphere, Daniel P. Erikson. The prime minister was joined by Minister of Foreign Affairs Fred Mitchell and National Security Minister, Wayne Munroe.

Secretary Del Toro’s trip marked the first time a U.S. Secretary of the Navy visited The Bahamas in an official capacity.

The U.S. envoys also met with Commodore of the Royal Bahamas Defense Force, Dr. Raymond King, the RBDF’s executive team and undersecretaries in the Ministry of National Security.
